In a Dutch village named Putten a memorial garden exists for the more than 600 men and boys who were brutaly taken by the Germans near the end of WW2. The statue of The Weeping Woman of Putten overlooks a garden of 600 squares, one each for the innocent men and boys who were deported to work camps in Germany in retaliation for a botched attack by the resistance at the border of the village. Most never returned. The book describes how it happened and the harrowing faith of the men in the camps.
Alyce Bailey was born and raised in Putten in the Netherlands but now lives in the US in Colorado. Alyce decided to tell the story in English because many people were not familiar with Nazi war crimes other than the crimes of the Holocaust. The book is a culmination of stories from family and friends she grew up with as well as additional research and interviews.
